The KestreL600 Wind Turbine
Controller/Regulator is available in two versions: Dump Regulator and
Shunt Regulator.
Dump Regulator The KestreL600 Dump Regulator disconnects from the battery at final voltage. An internal jumper programmes the output voltage. The principle of a dump regulator is that it transfers the turbine output from the battery to a resistor when the user terminal voltage is achieved. The regulator exhibits zero transfer switching time with no disturbance. In addition a user programmable timer facilitates a delay of 30 sec, 1 min, or 2 min, which eliminates on/off cycling. Shunt Regulator The KestreL600 Shunt Regulator maintains a constant charging voltage at all times. An internal jumper programmes the output voltage.
Design considerations were based on zero maintenance reliability at continuous 24 hour 100% duty cycle. Electronic continuous shunt loading ensures correct load characteristics and dynamic speed control of the wind turbine at all times. The result is that the KestreL600 generates optimum power at all wind speeds and particularly at low wind conditions. Available as 12V, 24V, 36V or 48V system. Ripple current can shorten the working life of batteries and this is eliminated by the fully rectified super-smooth polyphase output of the KestreL600 Wind Turbine. The generator voltage is constantly regulated to ensure battery charging at the correct curve. The KestreL600 Dump Regulator and KestreL600 Shunt Regulator fully comply with EMC requirements for telecommunication installations. Both versions are designed that they can connect in parallel with existing or new solar panel arrays and additional KestreL Wind Turbine systems (micro wind farms) to meet increased electrical power output requirements. |

A shunt regulator
is dynamic in operation and absorbs all of the unwanted energy during
charging. No switching
between
the battery and load resistor occurs and the unit will float a battery
and supply the load at all times.
